2012 ADVID award
The 2012 ADVID Award honoured Bernardino Cincinnato Camilo da Costa, an eminent agronomist and professor who was appointed delegate of the Chamber of Agriculture in 1900 for the World Fair in Paris, unanimously considered the most important Portuguese delegation.
Cincinnato da Costa presented “
Le Portugal Vinícole”, an oenological study of the main Portuguese grape varieties at the 1900 World Fair in Paris, earning him the
Grand Prix and proclamation as an honorary member of the Association of Winemakers of France. Nineteen watercolours of grape varieties, painted by Alfredo Roque Gameiro at the request of Cincinnato da Costa, are also found in this study. “
Le Portugal Vinícole” is a key historical document for the study of Portuguese grape varieties; it also had important literary and scientific impacts at the time of its publication.
The Prize Jury decided to award the
2012 ADVID Award - Eng.º Cincinnato da Costa to the study:
"General phenological model to characterize the timing of flowering and veraison of Vitis Vinífera L.” by the authors A. K. Parker and C. Van Leeuwen, from ENITA (National School for Agriculture Engineering), University of Bordeaux, and I. G. de Cortázar-Atauri and I. Chuine, from Centre for Functional and Evolutionary Ecology of Montpellier.
