2010 ADVID award
Engineer Jorge Ferreira, one of the founders of ADVID and member of the first Board of Directors elected in 1982, was the namesake of the 2010 award. Born in Porto in 1934, Jorge Ferreira dedicated his entire life to Douro, one of his great passions!
He began working as Director of Casa Ferreira (A.A Ferreira) soon after graduating in Civil Engineering and was responsible for the production and management of Douro "Quintas" (Port vineyards); he held this position until 1985 when he decided to dedicate himself to the full-time management of Quinta do Vallado, which he owned. He died in 1992.
The Prize Jury decided to award the Eng. Jorge Ferreira Award in 2010 to the study:
"
Highlighting Features of Spatiotemporal Spread of Powdery Mildew Epidemics in the Vineyard Using Statistical Modeling on Field Experimental Data", which was developed by the Department of Plant Health (A. Calonne, P. Cartolaro) and Biometrics Station (J. Chadoeuf) of the INRA (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique), in France.
