Wine quality and climate scenarios
FINISHED
Explaining and predicting wine quality as a function of a climatic scenario is the goal of the project “Modelling the evolution of wine quality in the Douro Region”.
Wine quality is strongly influenced by the characteristics of the climate and the seasonal variability of the weather - the characteristics of the climate determine the type of grapes that can be grown in a region and the types of wines that can be produced, while the specifics of the weather influence the ripeness of the grapes.
Taking this relationship as a starting point, ADVID, in partnership with the Faculty of Engineering of Porto (FEUP), developed this project which aims to create a reference index for the quality of the grape harvest.
This model should be able to explain the variability in the overall quality of a region's wines each year and predict wine quality according to a climate scenario.
