PRR - Vine & Wine PT: MiKS4Vine and ZEONI - New Products/formulations to promote a vine more resilience to climatic changes
The MiKS4Vine and ZEONI project aims to boost the sustainability of the sector, in the face of a climate change scenario by finding cost-effective drought adaptation strategies, through the application of different compounds in the vineyard in conjunction with the use of plant covers.
To this end, two innovative approaches to adapt vines to drought are involved. On one hand, a new formulation of exogenous particles tissue (MiKS) will be developed to improve the efficiency of the vine's water utilisation while preserving/improving the quality and typicity of the wine. Through a multidisciplinary approach combining plant physiology and molecular and metabolic methodologies, the goal is to: I) reveal the effects of MiKS treatment at different vegetative stages, that influences the relations of the vine water, photosynthetic performance, and berry quality; II) discover the effectiveness of MiKS application as a cost-effective drought mitigation strategy. Synergies between the use of zeolites, nitrification inhibitors and plant coverings will also be assessed and optimised as a way of promoting vine resilience in the face of climate change.
This is a sub-project of the PRR - Vine & Wine PT Mobilising Agenda - "Vine and Wine Portugal - Driving Sustainable Growth Through Smart Innovation", to be implemented between January 2023 and December 2025, coordinated by the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), in partnership with ADVID/CoLAB VINES&WINES, Universidade de Évora, Tecniferti and Symington.
