PRR - Vine & Wine PT: BUGS@VINE&WINE_PT - Creation and Exploitation of a Collection of Microbial Cultures for the Portuguese Wine Industry
ONGOING

BUGS@VINE&WINE_PT aims to bring together a set of endogenous microbial resources as an engine for innovation and the development of advanced bio-based products, services and solutions, with high added value, to increase the competitiveness and sustainability of the Portuguese wine industry through (I) access to validated resources that include both microorganisms and its characteristics, (II) the development of bio-based tools to mitigate the effects of climate change on wine quality (III) the provision of biotechnological solutions to deal with current and future sustainability challenges, and (IV) the empowerment of future research in the fields of vineyards and wine, which will boost the sustainable management of this sector in economic, social and environmental dimensions.
It is also intended to expand the mission to include interaction with biotechnology companies that promote the production and potential commercialisation of strains, as well as bioprospecting for other biotechnological applications, such as new fermentation products, enzymes and biofuels.

This is a sub-project of the PRR Mobilising Agenda - Vine & Wine PT - "Vine and Wine Portugal - Driving Sustainable Growth Through Smart Innovation", coordinated by UTAD in partnership with ADVID/CoLAB VINES&WINES, Niepoort (Vinhos), S.A., Symington Family Estates, S.A., Proenol, Vale São Martinho, S.A.
